As an educator to students with disabilities, you know that not all students learn in the same way. Below are some tips and strategies that you might find helpful to use in your classroom as the year progresses.
Know that your children are all different. They will not all learn the same way and if you can employ different learning techniques throughout the day, they will all be successful.
Don't be afraid to ask questions. If you need help when you are teaching a certain subject or content area, ask someone else. As teachers, we have to learn to work together in order to create the most ideal environment for our students.
As an educator, you have to be willing to go the extra mile. This often involves remaking lesson plans to fit your student's needs because if something isn't working, it doesn't make sense to keep doing it.
You should trust your instincts as an educator. If you believe that something is a good idea, try it. You will never know if something could work if you don't give it a shot.
Don't be afraid to look foolish. If you can do something that's funny and at the same time help your students learn, go for it. If they master the subject in the end, it will all be worth it.
Be prepared for plans to go amiss. Sometimes, you can plan a lesson out to the last minuscule detail and at the last minute, something can happen and it throws the entire lesson off. This will happen. When it does, pick yourself up and keep going.
Your students are going to have bad days. When this happens, keep moving. Don't let the actions of one student derail the entire class.
